Zaha Hadid Architects adds signature style to German flood defenses

The Niederhafen River Promenade project features large light gray granite amphitheater-like staircases

Following severe flooding in 1960s Hamburg, Germany, that killed over 300 people, the city upgraded its flood defenses. However, recent simulations revealed that even higher flood barriers were required to protect against extreme high tides and storm surges. An architecture competition was launched to redevelop the site and high-profile firm Zaha Hadid Architects got the nod.

A new footbridge has been installed at Tintagel Castle in Cornwall, England, that replaces a land bridge lost over 500 years ago. The project consists of two sections of bridge that don't quite meet in the middle, creating a small gap at the center.

BIG designs new arts and entertainment Giga Project in Saudi Arabia

Qiddiya broke ground in April 2018 and its first phase is set to open in 2022, ...

Plans have been revealed for a new development that certainly lives up to its "Giga-Project" marketing spiel. Named Qiddiya, the huge project's masterplan is designed, appropriately enough, by BIG (Bjarke Ingels Group), and will measure an incredible 334 sq km (129 sq mi). It's envisioned as Saudi Arabia's new capital of entertainment, sports, and arts, and is expected to be completed by 2030.
